about

THIS IS A 5 SONG EP

Welcome to Bret Helm’s Cosmic Brain, my newest musical project. Unlikely Assassin is my first EP for this project. With the exception of toy xylophone (!), ALL the sounds you hear on this album are made by me on bass guitar, including what ‘sounds’ likes traditional guitar playing here and there.

Over the past 3 years I have been focused on creating ambient music. While I’m still doing that, this new project offers another outlet for me to explore. This five song EP is pretty diverse, providing an interesting ride. For example, “If I lived in Minneapolis in the ‘80s“ is a throwback to a funkier side of things. I stumbled onto this track and, quite honestly, have no idea how long ago I made it as there was no date on the master. Wow. For sure, it’s 7-10 years old. It makes me smile, and I hope it will do the same for you. I think you are going to need to smile after I make you feel uncomfortable and angry with the title track. As always, play it loud over speakers.
